European dairy industry association
The European Dairy Association - official English name European Dairy Association (EDA) - is the advocacy of the milk processing companies in the European Union based in the European quarter in Brussels .
The association is an international non-profit making association under Belgian law ( association international sans but lucratif - aisbl ). The EDA is registered in the European Transparency Register under the number 42967152383-63.
history
It was founded in 1995 through the merger of several associations active in the milk sector with ASSILEC , the predecessor organization of the EDA. The founding members were the national dairy associations of the former EU-15 - Member States . Since its foundation, the further development of the association has been oriented towards the expansion of the European Union and changes in European politics. The association currently has 22 national dairy industry associations as members. In 2012, Michel Nalet (from Lactalis , France ) was elected EDA President. Alexander Anton has been Secretary General since 2013.
activity
The organization is lobbying at European level. On behalf of the member associations and in close cooperation with the representatives of the national associations, the focus of the work lies with the institutions of the European Union, NGOs , the international media and other stakeholders ( Codex Alimentarius , WTO ).
The EDA has been a member of the MMO Economic Council since the European Commission's Milk Monitoring Center (MMO) was founded on April 16, 2014. FDFA President Michel Nalet was elected Vice President of the group for civil dialogue “Milk” within the Directorate General for Agriculture and Rural Development of the EU Commission on November 19, 2014 , which he has been chairing since October 2017.
As FDFA President, Michel Nalet has also been a member of the EU Commission's High Level Forum for a Better Functioning Food Supply Chain since 2015.
