action
Bud Davis, a young laborer, moves from the small rural town of Spur, Texas, to Pasadena, Texas. He lives temporarily with his uncle Bob and his aunt Corene and finds work at a refinery in the east of the oil metropolis of Houston. He spends his evenings in the huge saloon "Gilley's Club", where he proves his talent on the mechanical bull .
He gets to know the young woman Sissy, marries her, loses her and finally wins her back.
background
The real "Gilley's Club" with space for 5500 visitors in Pasadena served as the backdrop for most of the film. The club operator Mickey Gilley, like Charlie Daniels, plays himself as the leader of the house band.
Aaron Latham is a journalist and screenwriter from Spur himself in Texas. He published an extensive diary about the making of the film.
