Charlie Daniel's band
The Charlie Daniels Band was an American country rock band. Her best known song is The Devil Went Down to Georgia , for which she was awarded a Grammy. The band existed from 1970 until Daniels' death in 2020.
Band history
Country musician Charlie Daniels began playing the fiddle and guitar as a child . In 1958 he founded the instrumental group The Jaguars , which became known mainly through numerous live performances in and around Texas. During these years Daniels developed into a sought-after songwriter, whose titles were recorded by Elvis Presley , among others .
On the advice of music producer Bob Johnston, he went to Nashville in 1967 to work as a session musician. A solo LP produced in 1970 turned out to be a commercial failure. Daniels then put together a band, the Charlie Daniels Band. The first-line cast included Don Murray, Charlie Hayward, James W. Marshall, and Joe DiGregorio. The group played southern rock modeled on the Allman Brothers and brought jazz , blues and boogie-woogie elements with.
1973 the band had their first hit with the song Uneasy Rider from the second album Honey in the Rock (1972). In this song Daniels mocks the hippie musicians from California who, unsettled by the movie Easy Rider , felt unsafe in pubs in the southern states and were afraid of being attacked because of their long hair. In 1974 they released Fire on the Mountain with the hit Texas . The album got into the Top 40 and got gold status. Another hit for Daniels was The South Is Gonna Do It Again , a hymn to southern rock and the lifestyle of the southern states. The album Saddle Tramp followed in 1976 - this record also went gold. During the 1970s, the Charlie Daniels Band became one of the main protagonists of southern rock. However, they did not make the big breakthrough in the pop or country charts. In 1974 he organized the first of several volunteer jam concerts that featured Southern rock musicians.
In the late 1970s, as southern rock began to decline in popularity, the band's music turned more and more towards country and the violin became Daniel's trademark. It also determined Daniels' biggest hit, The Devil Went Down to Georgia (1979). The song reached number 1 on the country charts and number 3 on the pop charts. The song was named single of the year by the Country Music Association (CMA). The album Million Mile Reflections went platinum several times and was also able to place in both the country and the pop charts. In 1980 the Charlie Daniels Band received a Grammy for "Best Country Vocal Performance By A Duo Or Group".
In 1980, the Charlie Daniels Band appeared in the John Travolta film Urban Cowboy , thereby increasing their popularity considerably. The next album, Full Moon, sold accordingly and was awarded platinum. The subsequent productions were only moderately successful. In 1990, Simple Man was another top 20 hit.
