John Furniss also John Furness (* 1935 in London ) is a British costume designer . He became known through his work for films such as Monte Carlo Rally , The Letter to the Kremlin , The Mediator , Murder with Small Mistakes and Nora .

life and work

John Furniss, born in London in 1935, began working as a costume designer for film in England in the mid-1960s. Furniss made his debut as a wardrobe designer for the actress Ursula Andress in the lavishly produced war drama The Blue Max by director John Guillermin . For his work there, he received his first British Academy Film Awards nomination in 1967 . This was followed by work for films such as the horror film The Black 13 by J. Lee Thompson or commissions for the two Ken Annakin productions Der Kampf and Monte Carlo Rally .

In 1970 he worked as a costume designer for John Huston's thriller The Letter to the Kremlin . In 1972 he was honored with his second British Academy Film Award nomination for the romantic drama The Mediator by director Joseph Losey . For the director Joseph L. Mankiewicz he provided the costumes for the film Murder with Small Errors in 1972 . At the Oscar ceremony in 1975 he was awarded in the category Best Costume Design nomination for the romantic drama Daisy Miller by Peter Bogdanovich . In 1976 Charles Jarrott hired him for his family film The Little Horse Thieves . He created his last work as a costume designer in 1978 for the sports drama Alles Glück hier Erde by director Bryan Forbes .
