David Campling

David Campling (born November 2, 1938 - † May 9, 2013 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American film editor and sound designer for cinema and television.

life and career

Trained at Pinewood and Twickenham Studios in Great Britain, David Campling first earned his spurs as a sound editor for productions for directors such as Roman Polański and John Schlesinger . For Schlesinger's award-winning drama Sunday, Bloody Sunday , he was nominated alongside colleagues Simon Kaye and Gerry Humphreys in 1972 for the BAFTA in the British Academy Film Award / Best Sound category.

Since the mid-1960s, in addition to artistically valuable films such as Wenn Katelbach geht ... or the drama Der Tag der Heuschrecke, he has also increasingly overseen main stream productions such as the Dick Clement comedy To Catch a Spy . In the 1980s he worked for Michael Winners retaliatory drama Death Wish II , further for James Cameron's science fiction cult film The Terminator with Arnold Schwarzenegger or Oliver Stone's war drama Platoon , for which he was nominated for the MPCE Golden Reel Awards received .

In addition to his work as a sound designer, David Campling has also been active as a film editor since the early 1970s. He was responsible for the film editing of the majority of commercially oriented cinema productions such as The Mare by Quentin Masters, Tiger's Tale - A Tiger on the Cushion by director Peter Douglas, Robert Ginty's action film The Bounty Hunter or The Enemy in My House by Joe Cacaci.

Campling was a longtime BAFTA board member in Los Angeles, where he served as treasurer. In 2002 he produced the organigram Homage to Schlesinger at the Egyptian Theater. He was a co-founder of the Heritage Archive project and was responsible for editing and editing many of the interviews in the series. He was also a member of the Motion Picture Sound Editors Guild .

David Campling passed away in Los Angeles on May 9, 2013 at the age of 74.
