Gerry Fisher

Gerry Fisher (born June 23, 1926 in London , † December 2, 2014 there ) was a British cameraman .

Life

Gerry Fisher learned the camera trade from 1946. In 1956, chief cameraman Jack Hildyard hired him as a member of the camera team for Die Brücke am Kwai . In the following years Fisher worked mostly with Hildyard on lavish productions. After he had worked as a collaborator in Hildyard's Modesty Blaise by director Joseph Losey in 1965, Losey offered him the opportunity in 1966 to work for the first time as chief cameraman. The collaboration continued on seven other films. Fisher earned a reputation for being one of the most precise and creative cinematographers of his generation, and quickly gained a foothold in international productions. Fisher was nominated for the British Academy Film Award for best camera for his innovative camera work in Battle in the Clouds , while Monsieur Klein earned him a César nomination .
