action

In Italy, wealthy families hire bodyguards to protect family members from kidnapping . The burned-out ex-CIA agent Creasy, who works as a mercenary , is hired by Michael Balletto to protect his daughter Samantha "Sam". Creasy isn't interested in taking care of a twelve-year-old, but accepts the job because he has no other vacancies. At first Creasy does not answer the curious questions of precocious Samantha, but soon becomes friends with her. Creasy becomes Samantha's caregiver when her parents are away and supports her with advice and guidance in running training .

When Sam is kidnapped by the Mafia , Creasy is badly wounded. Although Creasy has not fully recovered, he procures guns and sets off to find Sam. While searching, he tortures and kills informants and middlemen. Before he can find Sam, Creasy is gunned down in an abandoned warehouse. Sam was killed by her kidnappers. The police find Creasy next to her body and have him pronounced dead . In the last scene of the film, you can see Creasy visiting Sam's mother Jane.

production

Tony Scott was supposed to direct, but the studio felt he had too little experience and passed the project on to director Elie Chouraqui.

criticism

The lexicon of the international film judges: "Initially trying to deepen psychological aspects, the film soon turns into a mediocre action spectacle according to the common ' A man sees red ' scheme."

Viola Wich from Filmreporter.de writes: "Chouraqui's interpretation of the book is much better than the 2004 remake of 'Man Under Fire' with Denzel Washington in the role of the bodyguard."
