Ferdinando Scarfiotti
Ferdinando "Nando" Scarfiotti (born March 6, 1941 in Potenza Picena , Macerata Province , Italy ; † April 30, 1994 in Los Angeles , California ) was an Italian art director and production designer who won the Oscar , British Academy Film Award (BAFTA Film Award ), which David di Donatello won and twice the Nastro d'Argento des Sindacato Nazionale Giornalisti Cinematografici Italiani (SNGCI).
Life
Scarfiotti began his career as an art director and production designer in the film industry in 1965 for the film Oggi, domani, dopodomani and was involved in the production of 25 films until his death.
For the production design in which, after the eponymous novella by Luchino Visconti directed film Death in Venice (1971) with Dirk Bogarde , Björn Andrésen and Silvana Mangano in the leading roles he won the 1972 BAFTA Film Award and the first time the Silver band Nastro d 'Argento of the SNGCI.
When he was awarded the César in 1977 , he was nominated for the César for best production design, namely for the thriller Barocco (1976) by André Téchiné with Isabelle Adjani , Gérard Depardieu and Marie-France Pisier .
At the Oscar ceremony in 1988 , he won along with Osvaldo Desideri and Bruno Cesari Oscar for Best Production Design in by Bernardo Bertolucci directed film The Last Emperor (1987) with John Lone , Joan Chen and Peter O'Toole in the lead roles . He, Scarfiotti and Cesari also won the David di Donatello in 1988 for production design. He also won the Nastro d'Argento for the second time and was also nominated for a BAFTA Film Award in 1989 for the production design of this film.
Most recently Scarfiotti was nominated in 1993 with Linda DeScenna for the Oscar for best production design in Toys (1992) by Barry Levinson with Robin Williams , Michael Gambon and Joan Cusack .
