action

Because of an emergency landing with a jumbo on the Cook Islands , the passengers have to try by ships to reach their destinations anyway. This is how Mike Gambril and Terry McKay get to know each other. The attractive Mike is a formerly successful American football player who leads a casual life as a sports reporter and is about to marry a rich woman. Lovely Terry made her living as a background singer. Engaged to the multimillionaire Ken Allen, she has been setting up his estate around the globe since then and making a living from it. In the romantic setting of the Fiji Islands, during a family visit to Mike's likeable aunt Ginny, the two fall in love. Before they split up in order to be met by their actual fiancée, the two of them meet in exactly three months at the Empire State Building .

During these three months, both of them turn their lives upside down to find their actual calling and prepare for the big date. Mike separates from his fiancée, takes a badly paid coaching job and ends his Playboy lifestyle for lack of money. Terry also separates from her fiancé and works as a music-making kindergarten teacher. On the way to the big date, Terry is hit by a car at the foot of the Empire State Building and is paralyzed from the waist down. Hoping to face Mike on both feet soon and out of shame at the current disfigurement, she does not contact Mike.

criticism

  • Lexicon of the international film : “A cautiously staged, dreamy-nostalgic remake of the comedy The great love of my life (1957) by Leo McCarey (which is a new edition of Restless Love , 1939, by the same director). The plot still proves to be sustainable, especially since the romance of the material is supported by a good profile of the characters. "

Awards

Conrad L. Hall was nominated for the American Society of Cinematographers Award in 1995 for camera work . Warren Beatty was nominated for the Golden Raspberry in 1995 in the worst remake or cheapest copy category.
