Edward Fox
Edward Charles Morrice Fox , OBE (born April 13, 1937 in Chelsea , London ) is a British actor . One of his most famous roles is the title character in the thriller The Jackal .
Life
Edward Fox was born the first of three sons to an English actor family. His father was the acting agent Robin Fox . His brothers James Fox and Robert Fox are also in the film business. His paternal half-brother, Daniel Chatto , is the husband of Lady Sarah Chatto , a niece of Queen Elizabeth II. Fox initially wanted to be a soldier and served as a first lieutenant in the Coldstream Guards , but then decided to become an actor.
He had his first appearance in 1963 in a small supporting role in the film Alluring Laurel . In the late 1960s and early 1970s, he established himself with major roles in films such as The Mediator and the Battle of Britain . He had his breakthrough in 1973 with Fred Zinnemann's The Jackal , in which Fox played the assassin who planned the attack on French President Charles de Gaulle . This was followed by roles in Richard Attenborough's films The Bridge of Arnhem and the Oscar-winning Gandhi .
Fox also worked in television productions, so u. a. 1993 in The Maitlands with Eileen Atkins and Bill Nighy . In 1997 he appeared in A Dance to the Music of Time , a miniseries starring Nicholas Rowe and Gillian Barge . In recent years he has preferred to take on minor supporting roles. Fox is considered an English gentleman actor, whose often hypothermic appearance promoted his reputation as a typical upper class Briton.
Edward Fox was married to London actress Tracy Reed from 1958 to 1961 , with whom he has a daughter, Lucy Arabella. After his divorce from Reed, he lived with actress Joanna David , whom he married in 2004. The couple have two children, Emilia and Freddie , who are also actors.

Awards
- For the role as Lord Hugh Trimingham in The Mediator ( The Go-Between ) 1971 won Fox a BAFTA Award as best male supporting actor.
- For his role as Lieutenant General Horrocks in Die Brücke von Arnheim he received another BAFTA award in the same category in 1977.
- In 2003 he was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire , recognizing his services to British theater and cinema.
