Laurence Paul Fox (born May 26, 1978 in Yorkshire , England ) is a British film and theater actor and singer .

Life

Childhood, youth and education

Laurence Paul Fox was born in 1978 in Yorkshire , the third of five children of actor James Fox and his wife Mary Elizabeth Piper . His great-grandfather was the playwright Frederick Lonsdale . At the age of 13, Laurence Fox came to Harrow School in London . He smoked , was involved in fights , and often went into town because of girls. For these and other reasons, he was expelled from school shortly before his A-Level . He went back and did his exams. According to his own statements, Harrow made him a snitch.

After working as a gardener for two years , he went to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA). During his student days he appeared in the theater several times , for example as Stephen Dedalus in an adaptation of James Joyce ' Ulysses .

He made his first film appearance in 2001 in The Hole alongside Keira Knightley .

Career

On July 1, 2001, Fox graduated from RADA. After The Hole , he made an appearance in the Oscar-winning film Gosford Park . He also appeared in Island at War and The Last Mission - Das Himmelfahrtskommando , and later in Deathwatch , Ultimate Force and Colditz - Escape to Freedom . In the latter, Fox plays Capt. Tom Willis, a prisoner of war in the Oflag IV-C camp at Colditz Castle . It was in this film that Kevin Whately discovered him , whereupon Fox starred as Sergeant Hathaway alongside Whately in the title role in the crime series Lewis - Der Oxford Krimi . This ran since 2006 in Great Britain and in Germany since 2009 and was discontinued at the end of 2015 after Kevin Whately left the company.

In Charles and Camilla - Love Means crown Fox played in 2005 Prince Charles of Wales , 2007 in Elizabeth - The Golden Age the Lord Chancellor Hatton. In the same year he was also seen as Cecil Vyse in a television adaptation of the novel Room with a View . In the James Bond film Die Another Day , he lost the role of villain Gustav Graves to Toby Stephens .

At the theater he played in Ms. Warren's trade of George Bernard Shaw at the Novello Theater in London and other plays. In 2006 and 2007 he starred in Treats by Christopher Hampton with his future wife Billie Piper .

In April 2007, Laurence Fox beat up a paparazzo and was arrested for assault, but was later released on bail.

Personal

Laurence Fox is part of one of the UK's most prominent acting families . His father is James Fox, his uncles are Edward Fox and Robert Fox, his aunt is Joanna David , his cousin Emilia Fox , his cousin Freddie Fox . From 2007 to 2016 he was married to Billie Piper ; the wedding took place in Eastbourne , East Sussex . The mother of his two sons (* 2008 and * 2012) announced their separation on March 23, 2016 and the divorce followed on May 12, 2016.
