The Last Mission - Das Himmelfahrtskommando (Original title The Last Drop ) is a British war film with comical features by director Colin Teague from 2006 .

action

During the Allied air landing in Holland in 1944 , a British special force was tasked with seizing stolen works of art and treasures that were hidden in a homestead and were to be brought to Berlin by the German SS Brigade Leader Kessler. But the Matchbox mission starts bumpy when the squad is separated from the unit on landing and the general is killed.

In addition, the German thieves Hans Beck and Jergen Voller are also after the works of art, as Voller, as a former soldier, was betrayed by Kessler and only narrowly escaped execution. The situation comes to a head when American troops under Major JT Colt approach the homestead and learn of the treasures.

background

It is a war comedy because, for example, the issue of genocide and mass murder is not addressed. Instead, the focus is on the competition between the various parties for the art treasures. The alleged SS brigade leader wears the collar tabs of an SS group leader . This is a 2 star general. The black company car bears the registration number WL for Wehrmacht-Luftwaffe. But it would have to be SS . Instead of the standard car of the Wehrmacht , only ARO M59 are driven. A commandeered Wehrmacht truck is an IFA W50 . The film prop failed several times.

Reviews

"This adventure comedy, which has a large number of supporting roles, is more of a cheerful crook than a moving WWII drama or even an accusation against war or fascism ..."

- e-base

"The war comedy largely excludes genocide and mass murder and concentrates on the caper movie elements, with the incessant exchange of uniforms creating a utter mess."
