Robert Michael John Fox (born March 25, 1952 in Cuckfield , Essex ) is a British film and theater producer .

Life

Robert Fox grew up as the third child of theater agent Robin Fox with actress Angela Worthington . After attending Harrow School , like his entire family, he aspired to a working life in the arts. Initially active as an actor, he began as a runner for John Heyman at World Film Services . He then became an assistant director at the Royal Court Theater . In 1973 he became Associate Producer for Michael White Limited and worked on productions such as A Chorus Line , Annie and The Rocky Horror Show .

In 1980 he founded Robert Fox Limited. He initially produced in London's West End , and later on Broadway . His best-known productions included Another Country (from 1981), Burn This (with John Malkovich ), Arthur Miller's The Ride Down Mt. Morgan and The Boy from Oz .

He also began working for the film, starting with the TV movie Anyone for Dennis? . In 2002 he produced The Hours by Stephen Daldry . The production earned him an Oscar nomination. In the same year he won a Christopher Award with Iris .

He was nominated for an Emmy in 2017 and 2018 for his production of the television series The Crown for Netflix .

Private life

From 1990 to 1992 he was married to actress Natasha Richardson .
