The Hansa Brandenburg W.27 was a fighter aircraft prototype designed as a floatplane , which was developed by Hansa-Brandenburg during the First World War parallel to the W.32 .

development

The W.27 was a further development for the W.12, which was just in operation at the time, and was to replace it later. The main difference was the choice of engine. The W.27 used a Benz Bz IIIb , while the W.12 used a Mercedes D III .

Like the W.12, the W.27 was a double-decker with a largely conventional design. The rudder unit was unusual, the rudder of which extended downwards behind the end of the fuselage to compensate for the influence of the floating unit on the flight controls . It differed from the earlier design by a shorter fuselage, more staggered wings and I-stems for both the intermediate wing struts and for the strut between the upper wing and fuselage, where the W.12 had used conventional strut pairs.

Only a single prototype was made. The successor to the W.12 was the monoplane Hansa-Brandenburg W.29 .
