History and construction
The Hansa-Brandenburg FB was the first flying boat that the Hansa-Brandenburg company designed for the Navy. The design was based on the Lohner L . It was a one and a half-decker made of wood and fabric. The lower wing was mounted directly on the fuselage. The motor that drove a pusher propeller was mounted on struts between the wings. The tail unit was on struts above the fuselage . The crew consisted of a pilot and two observers. The aircraft already had a radio telegraph system . It was able to stay in the air for eight hours. About six aircraft were built for the German Navy . A small number also went to the Austro-Hungarian Navy . Both used them as scouts .
