Peter Handford (born March 21, 1919 - † November 6, 2007 ) was a British sound engineer .

Handford documented " D-Day " for British troops during World War II , when Allied troops landed in Normandy on June 6, 1944 ( Operation Overlord ). He later worked with Alfred Hitchcock , among others .

In 1986, Peter Handford was awarded the Oscar for Best Sound for Out of Africa .
