Dominic Guard (born June 18, 1956 in London , England ) is a British former actor and current psychotherapist .

life and career

Dominic Guard was born into an acting family: his father Philip Guard (* 1928), his mother Charlotte Mitchell (1926–2012) and his older brother Christopher Guard (* 1953) were or are also actors. For the first time in front of the camera stand guard for a television film adaptation of Dickens -novel Dombey and Son by 1969. Already his second film role brought him a lot of attention: He played a key supporting role in Joseph Losey's film drama The Mediator , which at the Film Festival in Cannes , the Palme d'Or won . Guard received the Best Young Actor award at the British Academy Film Awards in 1972 for his performance in Der Mittler .

A second classic film with his participation was Peter Weir's Valentine's Day Picnic (1975), filmed in Australia , in which Guard played a young man from a wealthy family who obsessively searches for the secret behind the disappearance of several women. In 1978 he spoke the Peregrin Took in the cartoon The Lord of the Rings based on JRR Tolkien (his older brother Christopher spoke the main character Frodo) and was seen alongside Richard Burton in the thriller Absolution . In the early 1980s he had a mini role as an officer in the Oscar-winning film epic Gandhi and took on a four-episode guest role as Olvir in the long-lived cult series Doctor Who . In the course of the 1980s and 1990s, however, the good role offers for him increasingly waned, until his last role in the series Agatha Christie's Poirot in 2000, he was almost only seen in guest appearances on British television.

Guard changed his field of work and is now a psychotherapist for children in London. He also uses acting specifically as a healing method for the children. In addition, he has already published over 10 children's books as an author. Guard has two children from his marriage to fellow actress Sharon Duce (* 1950).
