Diary of Adultery is a 1970 American comedy film directed by Frank Perry based on the novel by Sue Kaufman .

Tina Balser is a bored housewife and mother from New York City who is married to Jonathan Balser, a pompous ascendant attorney , who mocks her in front of their children and criticizes everything she does or attracts. She then begins a love affair with George Prager, an elegant, successful and unabashedly sadistic writer . When he finally tortures her just as Jonathan did and becomes unfaithful, she returns to her husband and begins group psychotherapy .

Carrie Snodgress involved in the Oscars 1971 in the best category actress and a Society of Film and Television Arts Award was nominated in 1972 for Best Newcomer in a leading role, won the 1971 Golden Globe Award as best young actress and best actress in a comedy . She also won two Laurel Awards : Best Actress in a Drama and Best Young Actress.
Richard Benjamin was nominated for the Golden Globe for best actor in a comedy , as was the film itself in the Golden Globe category of Best Picture . Frank Langella was nominated for the Golden Globe for Best Young Actor and won the National Board of Review Award for Best Young Actor.
