Gerald Hirschfeld

Gerald Hirschfeld (born April 25, 1921 in New York City , New York - † February 13, 2017 in Ashland , Oregon ) was an American cameraman . In some of his films he was listed under the name Jerry Hirschfeld.

Life

Gerald Hirschfeld attended Columbia University and was employed as a cameraman during his subsequent military service in World War II . In the first years after the war he worked as an instructor at the New Institute for Film in Brooklyn. In 1949 he made his first movie with C-Man . Most of the films that were made with him as chief cameraman for television and cinema in the following years are little remarkable. In the 1970s he worked outside the Hollywood film business, including with the director Larry Peerce on some productions that placed higher demands on his photographic skills, but was also engaged in entertainment films such as Frankenstein Junior .

In 2003 he received the ASC President's Award from the American Society of Cinematographers .

Hirschfeld was married and had three children.
