Phyllis Dalton

Phyllis Margaret Dalton MBE (* 1925 in London ) is a British costume designer who has twice won an Oscar , a Saturn Award , a BAFTA Award and an Emmy .

Life

Phyllis Dalton began her career as a costume designer in the film industry in 1950 with the film The Unknown Witness and worked on the costume design of more than forty films until 1993.

At the 1966 Academy Awards , she won her first Oscar for Best Costume in a Color Film for Doctor Zhivago (1965) by David Lean, starring Omar Sharif , Julie Christie and Alec Guinness . For Oliver (1968) by Carol Reed with Mark Lester , Jack Wild and Ron Moody , she was nominated for an Oscar for best costume design as well as for a BAFTA Film Award for best costumes in 1969.

In 1974 she won a BAFTA Film Award for Best Costumes in Embassy for Lady Franklin (1973) by Alan Bridges with Robert Shaw , Sarah Miles and Peter Egan . She won an Emmy for Outstanding Costume Design in 1983 for the television film The Scarlet Seal (1982) directed by Clive Donner , starring Anthony Andrews , Jane Seymour and Ian McKellen , directed by the CBS . In 1988 she also won a Saturn Award for Best Costume for the 1982 fantasy film The Prince's Bride by Rob Reiner, starring Cary Elwes , Robin Wright and Chris Sarandon .

She won an Oscar for best costume design in 1990 for the film Henry V. (1989) by and with Kenneth Branagh and Derek Jacobi and Simon Shepherd in other roles based on the drama of the same name by William Shakespeare and was also for another BAFTA for her work there Award nominated for the best costumes.

She received another nomination for a BAFTA Film Award for best costumes in 1994 for the film Much Ado About Nothing (1993), which was also based on the play of the same name by Shakespeare and directed by Kenneth Branagh with himself, Emma Thompson and Richard Briers .

Phyllis Dalton was finally appointed a member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) by Queen Elizabeth II in 2002 for her services as a costume designer in the film industry .
