Jack Wild (born September 30, 1952 in Royton , Oldham , Lancashire , † March 1, 2006 in Tebworth , Bedfordshire ) was a British film and stage actor.

life and career

Wild became known with the theater and film productions of the Lionel Bart musical Oliver! (based on Charles Dickens ' Oliver Twist ). For his role as the Artful Dodger in the film version of 1968 he was already 16 years old a nomination for the Oscar as Oscar / Best Supporting Actor . In fact, the Oscar was given to Jack Albertson for his role in The Subject was Roses . Also at the British Academy Film Awards and the Golden Globe Awards he received nominations in this category.

While filming for Oliver! Wild was discovered by Sid and Marty Krofft for their television series HR Pufnstuf , whose leading role he took over in 1969 and played in both the series and later film. Wild also worked in the music industry, recording one album for Capitol Records and two for Buddah Records in the early 1970s.

His excessive drinking ended up being the end of Jack Wild's career. In the following decades he only came back to the big screen occasionally in small and small roles , such as in 1991 as Much in Kevin Costner's Robin Hood - King of Thieves .
