The Man in Black (Original title: The Dark Man ) is a British crime film by director Jeffrey Dell from 1951 with Edward Underdown , Maxwell Reed , Natasha Parry and William Hartnell in the lead roles. The film was produced by independent artists.

A double murder takes place in a small town on the southeast coast by the sea. The budding actress Molly Lester witnesses the act and is in mortal danger when the perpetrator "The Man in Black" tries to get hold of her in order to subsequently remove her inconspicuously. Inspector Jack Viner is put on the case, falls in love with Molly and tries to protect her. After the perpetrator tried to lure Molly into his apartment in order to strangle her there, the pretty young lady woke up in time from the anesthesia administered by the killer and eluded him. "The Man in Black" flees. However, the killer is later cornered at a rifle range by officials and the army and overwhelmed by a crowd of military, police and civilians.
