Rita Wilson
Rita Wilson (* 26. October 1956 in Los Angeles , California as Margarita Ibrahimova ) is an American actress , singer and film producer .
career
Wilson played one of the bigger roles in the comedy Everything listens to my command (1985) alongside Tom Hanks and John Candy , in the comedy Lifesavers (1994) she appeared alongside Steve Martin . In the film Now and Then - Damals und heute (1995) she starred alongside Gaby Hoffmann , Thora Birch , Christina Ricci , Demi Moore and Melanie Griffith , in the comedy Promised is promised (1996) alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger . She played the role of Ellie Graham, the boss and ex-wife of Ike Graham , played by Richard Gere in the comedy The Bride Who Doesn't Dare .
As a producer, she was responsible for the box office hit My Big Fat Greek Wedding (2002) and the television series My Big Fat Greek Life (2003).
Wilson has been married to Tom Hanks since April 1988 and has two sons with him, Chet (born August 4, 1990) and Truman (born December 26, 1995). She is also the stepmother of two children from Hanks' first marriage. Her brother Chris Wilson composed the music for the film My Big Fat Greek Wedding .
In 2015, Wilson starred opposite Larry David in the Broadway production of David's play Fish in the Dark .
Wilson is also a singer and has released two albums: AM / FM (2012) and Rita Wilson (2016).
On March 29, 2019, she was honored with the 2,659th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame .
Private
Rita Wilson's father was Bulgarian and her mother was of Greek descent. The family changed the surname from Ibrahimov (or Ibrahimoff ) to Wilson, according to the street on which they lived. Wilson and her husband Tom Hanks have been Greek citizens since July 27, 2020. Both have owned a house on the island of Antiparos for years.
In April 2015, Wilson underwent a bilateral mastectomy for invasive lobular breast cancer .
