50/50 - Friends for (survival) is a 2011 American comedy directed by Jonathan Levine and starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Seth Rogen . The film, which is based on the personal experiences of the screenwriter Will Reiser , mainly makes fun of how awkwardly people deal with such a serious illness as cancer.

action

Adam, a 27 year old radio producer who is otherwise in excellent health, suddenly learns of his cancer diagnosis. He reports the diagnosis to his girlfriend Rachael, his best friend Kyle, his mother Diane, and his father Richard, who has Alzheimer's disease. Everyone handles this message and subsequent treatments differently. Adam begins therapy with the young and inexperienced therapist Katherine, who has been assigned to him by the hospital, and becomes friends with the older chemotherapy patients Mitch and Alan.

Over the course of the film, Adam breaks up with his girlfriend Rachael after his boyfriend Kyle sees her kissing someone else. Kyle convinces Adam that cancer is the perfect way to get women to bed.

The chemotherapy does not work, so his tumor has to be surgically removed. Mitch had passed away shortly before. The tumor can be removed and Adam has his first date with Katherine.
