action

Lawrence Jamieson is a savvy con man. As an alleged prince in exile, he capitalizes on the dreams of rich women who willingly open their hearts and wallets to him. Inspector André and the butler Arthur give him discreet assistance.

One day, a certain Freddy Benson comes into Jamieson's enclosure. His tear-soaked story about an allegedly terminally ill grandmother is tasteless in Jamieson's eyes, but it works with women, so that Jamieson considers it advisable to remove the uncouth American as quickly as possible from his lucrative hunting grounds on the Riviera. Unfortunately, the little crook finds out about him and desperately wants to learn from him.

Jamieson reluctantly agrees; for a while the two crooks work hand in hand. But when he can't get rid of Benson afterwards, Jamieson finally persuades him to enter into a competition: whoever can get 50,000 dollars from the first woman they come across is the winner, the other has to leave the field and leave the area.

In this situation, Janet Colgate comes to the two of them right on time. As the naive heiress of a soap empire, she promises to be a worthwhile sacrifice. Both crooks try with all their might to thwart the other's plans, only to finally discover with astonishment that Colgate herself is a legendary con named "Jackal", who cleverly played them off against each other and reduced them by 50,000 dollars. Benson is angry, Jamieson is rather impressed.

At the end, "Janet" returns and suggests that they both work together from now on.

criticism

“Boulevard comedy staged with old-fashioned cinematic means with tempo, dialogue wit and playful main actors. One of the few new editions of old fabrics that are better than the original. "
