Bowfinger is a comedy film from the year 1999 , when Frank Oz directed.

action

The film producer Bobby Bowfinger has the big dream of making a successful film. His accountant wrote a script for this called Chubby Rain . Bowfinger receives a promise from the manager of a film studio that the film will be marketed. The only condition is that the movie star Kit Ramsey plays a role in it. Ramsey refuses, however. Bowfinger does not give up and develops a plan that provides that all scenes with Kit Ramsey are shot without his knowledge. He tells his co-workers that Ramsey has developed his own way of acting, in which he doesn't want to communicate with others outside of filming. Bowfinger and his staff ambush Ramsey in various places, recite their texts and then film Ramsey's confused-looking reactions with a hidden camera.

The plan seems to be working fine. Ramsey stars in Bowfinger's film without his own knowledge, but misinterprets the sudden appearance of Bowfinger's actors. He believes he is being chased by aliens, which further aggravates his already troubled mental health. He then fled to the MindHead organization (a reference to Scientology ) of which he is a member. He can be sealed off there in order to improve his mental state.

With Ramsey's disappearance, Bowfinger gets into trouble. In order to still be able to finish his film, he hires a man named Jiff, who looks a lot like Kit Ramsey. Jiff is a nice person, but not entirely smart. After a while, Jiff casually mentions that he is Kit Ramsey's brother. Bowfinger wants to know the whereabouts of Kit through Jiff so that he can shoot the end of the film there.

Bowfinger is only missing the last scene of his film, which is to be shot on the premises of an observatory. He manages to lure Kit there and convince him that only he can defeat the aliens. However, MindHead employees show up at the location and finish the recording. At this point Bowfinger is convinced that he will never be able to make his own movie.

But after the abrupt end of the film shoot, his cameraman simply left the camera running and filmed Kit Ramsey as an exhibitionist approaching the Laker Girls, a cheerleading group, with a paper bag pulled over his head .

Bowfinger shows the footage to MindHead leaders and threatens to release the footage if Kit doesn't finish shooting. MindHead realizes that the footage could ruin Ramsey's career and convinces him to quit the film.

When the film premieres and Bowfinger sees his name on the screen, he is overwhelmed. As the film was a success, Bowfinger soon got an offer to make a martial arts film called "Fake Purse Ninjas," in which Kit's brother Jiff played the lead role.

The film cost $ 55 million and grossed approximately $ 98 million.
