Colm Meaney (born May 30, 1953 in Dublin ) is an Irish actor, best known for his Star Trek role as Miles O'Brien and his roles in Stephen Frears ' Roddy Doyle trilogy.

Career

Colm Meaney began taking acting classes at the Abbey Theater School of Acting at the age of 14, and a year later he became a member of the National Theater of Ireland . He spent eight years in England as a stage actor. He also made his first contacts with television.

Meaney was best known in the role of transporter chief and later chief engineer Miles Edward O'Brien in the television series Starship Enterprise: The Next Century and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine . Between these series engagements, Meaney starred in the 1992 pilot for Dr. Quinn - a passionate doctor the role of Jake Slicker, which was taken over by the actor Jim Knobeloch from the second episode .

Private life

Meaney married Irish actress Bairbre Dowling in 1977 . The marriage resulted in a daughter in 1984. In 1994 the divorce took place. In 2004 Meaney met French costume designer Inés Glorian while filming Blueberry and the Curse of the Demons . Their daughter was born in 2005. The couple has been married since 2007.

Dubbing voice

Meaney does not have a permanent voice actor in Germany. Most often Roland Hemmo lends him his voice.
