action

When Alice was ten years old, her father Carpenter disappeared without a trace. Since then, the young woman has been looking for a sign of life from him. She invites her new friend Jack Chase to her home to introduce him to her mother. Later, Jack wants to give her a ring, but Alice goes too fast and reacts dismissively. After she throws him out of the apartment, he is ambushed and kidnapped by a man in a suit with a rabbit on his lapel . Alice, who has noticed that Jack has secretly slipped her the ring, confronts the strange man who demands the ring. However, Alice only gives him the empty case. When the man escapes, she pursues him and sees him disappear through a large mirror in a warehouse. Alice, who cannot stop in time, also falls through.

She finds herself in a strange world with gray, dilapidated skyscrapers. She is captured and locked in a box. But she can free herself a little later. A homeless man leads her to a young man named Hatter, who takes her under his wing and explains to her that she is in Wunderland. Here people from Alice's world are put into a trance in a casino and their respective emotions are extracted from their bodies in the form of an extract. The tyrannical Queen of Hearts, the ruler of Wunderland, rules her population.

When the Queen discovers that the case does not contain a ring, she has Alice looked for. To do this, she hires Mad March, a person with an artificial rabbit's head who is known for his uncompromising approach. Only the ring enables the mirror portal to be opened in order to abduct people on a regular basis and thus obtain vital extracts. Hatter and Alice can flee from the search party into a forest. There they meet the White Knight Charly, the last of his kind. The White Knights protected the ring before the Queen of Hearts was in power and then had it removed.

But Alice is tracked down by the White Hare and arrested. She demands her friend Jack back from the Queen of Hearts before giving her the ring. It turns out that her boyfriend is called Jack Heart, is the queen's son and is already engaged to a duchess. He just played everything for her. Alice is locked up in order to elicit the hiding place of the ring. However, she is freed by Hatter and the White Knight and flees. As Hatter and Alice get closer, Jack suddenly appears. He explains to Alice that he is playing a double game and that he is actually a supporter of the resistance movement against his mother. He can also lead her to her father, who was also kidnapped years ago and is still alive. Alice believes him and gives him the ring.

When confronted with her father, however, he does not recognize his daughter. He was very well manipulated by the Queen of Hearts. He was trained as a laboratory manager for extract production. But brief flashes of thought make him puzzled. Jack's mission all along was to win Alice over to wake her father up again. The Queen's search party appears unexpectedly and arrests everyone. The Queen of Hearts has the ring back in her possession and sentences Jack and Alice to death. Alice is able to free herself and, together with Hatter, causes bad emotions among the trapped people in the casino, which leads to the collapse of the previous wonderland. Her father is now back in his senses and asks Alice for forgiveness, but is then shot. When the Queen's subjects rebel, she has to return the ring to Alice. The tyranny is over.

All kidnapped people and Alice return to their world, Jack is now King of Wonderland and Hatter, contrary to his original idea, does not accompany them. Alice wakes up in a hospital where her mother explains to her that it has only been an hour since the warehouse incident. When the construction worker who found her rings at home, she recognizes Hatter, falls around his neck and kisses him. Her mother stands by, stunned.

criticism

“The entire story could have been told in half the time, so after the first hour there are quite a few lengths. Nick Willings' 'Alice in Wonderland' is very strong in terms of artistic interpretation. The theme of the feelings that people absorb in a casino and are filled into expensive bottles is a success, and the weird tea party and the strong performance of the Queen of Hearts, played by Oscar winner Kathy Bates, make this 'Alice in Wonderland' in Unique in some ways. Nick Willing's modern 'Alice' production is convincing, at least from an artistic point of view! "

“All in all, every fan of the original should decide for themselves whether or not to give this modern interpretation of 'Alice in Wonderland' a chance. The magical-bizarre atmosphere of the book is just as absent as its hidden statements. The two-parter is much simpler and less demanding and tells a more or less conventional story about love and family that only uses set pieces from the two Alice novels by Lewis Carroll. "
