Alice in Wonderland is a British film directed by Cecil Hepworth and Percy Stow from the year 1903 . The film is based on the book of the same name by Lewis Carroll and is the first ever " Alice in Wonderland " film adaptation. At 800 feet in length, it is also the longest film produced in England to date. Due to its length, the film was often only sold by scenes and not in full. So a scene was selected and shown. The film consisted of a total of 16 scenes, today only 14 are preserved and archived in the British Film Institute .

Hepworth insisted that the characters resemble those of the original illustrator John Tenniel as closely as possible. The film was shot on a small wooden stage belonging to the villa of the production community. The exterior scenes were created in the nearby gardens of Mount Felix.
