Percy Stow
Percy Stow (* 1876 in London-Islington , † July 10, 1919 in Torquay ; actually Percival Edwin Stow ) was a British film director and producer .
Life
The Stow working as a photographer began his film work in 1901 when Cecil Hepworth's film production company, where he was director of film-trick-based short films such as How to Stop a Motor Car (1902) and Alice in Wonderland (1903), particularly with stop-action and stop-motion Effects worked. In 1904 he founded the Clarendon Film Company, which never belonged to the big corporations, together with Hepworth employee HV Lawley . In their small studios in Croydon , comedies with creative wit and social satires were made. Stow showed his constant affinity for camera tricks in films such as Rescued in Mid-Air (1906). The British film industry experienced at that time a wave of innovation, including Stow partook at the - with so absurd comedies like A Wild Goose Chase (1908) or A Glass of Goat's Milk (1909), the Shakespeare -Adaption The Tempest (1908) or the lining Comedy Love and the Varsity (1913). In 1908 he took over the production company alone. While he then shared the directorial work at Clarendon with Wilfred Noy and others, Stow created another film character in 1910 with "Lieutenant Rose", which formed a popular series that ran until 1915 with changing actors.
Percy Stow has directed nearly 300 films in his 15-year career. He died of tuberculosis in the southern county of Devon .
