background

Jayne Mansfield played the role of Rita Marlowe in the Broadway production of Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter? and was thereby discovered for Hollywood. The play was originally a satire on the American film business. Tashlin moved the setting to New York and turned it into a satire on television advertising. The name Rita Marlowe was made up of the names of the three greatest Hollywood divas: Rita Hayworth , Marilyn Monroe and Jean Harlow . Mansfield then also plays a shrill parody of these three women.

Mickey Hargitay can be seen in the role of Bobo . Hargitay is a former Mr. Universe who later became Mansfield's husband and father of three of their five children.
