Edward Laurence Albert , actually Edward Laurence Heimberger , (born February 20, 1951 in Los Angeles , California , † September 22, 2006 in Malibu , California) was an American film actor .

Life

Edward Albert was born to the actor Eddie Albert and his wife, the Mexican dancer and singer Margo . His godfather was the British actor Laurence Olivier , a good friend of the family. Edward Albert also got his middle name from Olivier. Albert was in front of the camera at a young age; He made his film debut in 1965 at the age of 14 when he starred in a minor supporting role alongside Anthony Perkins in The Fool Killer .

As a young man, Albert began studying psychology at the University of California, Los Angeles , but dropped out in 1972 to pursue his true calling, acting. In the same year he stood in front of the camera in Butterflies Are Free , which became his most successful film. In 1973 he was nominated for two Golden Globe Awards and received the award in the category of best young actor .

In 1976 he starred in the war film Battle for Midway and in 1980 in the science fiction film The Day the World Ended . In 1983 he took on one of the main roles in the soap opera The Yellow Rose , whose production was discontinued in 1984 after 22 episodes due to lack of success. Albert then appeared in front of the camera as a guest actor in numerous well-known television series, such as Falcon Crest , Star Trek: Deep Space Nine , Dr. Quinn - Doctor by Passion or in Nash Bridges .

In addition to his acting career, Albert was also involved in social and cultural issues. He sat on the California Coastal Commission , and later also on the Heritage Commission , through which the interests of the Mexican residents of California should be better represented. In addition, he was considered to be very well-read and, in addition to his native English, spoke four other languages, including Mandarin fluently. He was also diagnosed with an intelligence quotient of 157 points.

In June 1979, his personal life briefly caused a stir when he married 41-year-old British actress Katherine Woodville at the age of 28 . In August 1980 their only child, the poet and songwriter Thais "Tai" Carmen, was born. Albert and Woodville were married to each other until his death in September 2006.

In April 2005 he was diagnosed with lung cancer. Albert died in September 2006 at the age of 55.
