action

Nevada, late 1930s: the young woman Kady unexpectedly appears at the disused silver mine, which has been guarded by Jess Tyler for years. She is allowed to stay for a while and soon introduces herself as his daughter. Jess begins to develop paternal as well as erotic feelings for Kady, which Kady gratefully accepts. She secretly wants to mine silver in the mine to take care of herself and her baby. Jess agrees after some hesitation.

Some time later, Kady's sister with the baby, her mother Belle and her new lover Moke Blue appear at the mine. In a few days, Wash Gillespie, the wealthy son of the mine owner, will take Kady to the altar. Jess catches Moke Blue trying to steal silver from the mine himself. Suddenly Jess recognizes the birthmark on his stomach, which is the same as the baby's. Jess shoots Moke down. The latter mentions as he dies that Kady is his child too.

Jess and Kady have to appear in court as the allegation of incest is in the room. Jess does not have to go to jail for ten years as he can prove that the male descendants of the Blue family each have a butterfly-shaped birthmark. Back in freedom, Kady is grateful. She will be with Wash Gillespie while Jess will "always be her daddy".
