action
James Gannon, the editor of a New York newspaper, says college education is a waste of time for a good journalist. In the newspaper business, it's all about experience. Erica Stone is a lecturer in journalism at the local university and asks Gannon of all people if he would like to speak to an evening class. Without further ado, Gannon wrote a letter to the lecturer in which he made his point of view. But his editor-in-chief sends him to the university. Gannon sees how attractive the lecturer is, but can't stop the letter. Erica reads the letter aloud to the class.
Gannon decides to join the class as the alleged businessman Jim Gallagher. The lecturer is enthusiastic about her new student, she considers him to be an extremely talented journalism student. Gannon feels more and more drawn to Erica, but continues with his ruse. He also has to consult the psychologist Dr. Pine, who, Gannon believes, also has an eye on Erica, and also take care of his own friend, a singer. When Erica discovers Gannon's true identity, she wants to turn away from him. But with the help of Dr. Pine, the two find each other again. They accept each other's points of view and understand each other.
background
Fay and Michael Kanin initially conceived the script as a drama. Only when they couldn't find a production studio did they rewrite it as a comedy.
Michael Kanin was honored with the Oscar in 1942. Production designer Hal Pereira was nominated for at least one Oscar every year between 1953 and 1964, and in 1955 and 1964 for three films at the same time. He won the Oscar only once in 1956. His colleague Sam Comer was able to take home four Oscars over the course of his career (1946, twice in 1951 and 1956). The eight-time Oscar-winning Edith Head was responsible for the costumes . Farciot Edouart was responsible for the special effects. In addition to two Oscars for his film work, he was awarded seven special oscars for his developments in the field of camera technology and photography.
