Edith Schneider-Mosbacher (born July 16, 1919 in Bochum ; † August 11, 2012 in Munich ) was a German actress and voice actress . She was best known as the German voice of Doris Day .

Life

Edith Schneider gained her first stage experience at the age of three. After finishing school, she attended the renowned Folkwang School in Essen. Theater engagements in Aachen, Essen, Düsseldorf, Berlin (where she played for a long time under Boleslaw Barlog ), Hamburg and Munich should follow.

Edith Schneider also appeared in film and television productions, such as in several episodes of the ZDF crime series Derrick and Der Alte , the Edgar Wallace film Im Banne des Unheimlichen , but also in international productions such as the agent thriller The Quiller Memorandum - Danger out of the dark next to Alec Guinness and Max von Sydow or as the mother of Lee Remick in the American television film Bluterbe .

In addition, Edith Schneider has worked extensively in dubbing since 1950 and lent her voice to numerous international colleagues, including the most important Doris Day in almost all of her German films. In her final years she lent her voice to Maggie Smith several times - in the films The Scent of Lavender , Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and in 2007 in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix .

Edith Schneider was married to fellow actor Peter Mosbacher (1912–1977). They have a son, Manuel, and two grandchildren, Benedikt and Anna Lena Meisenberger.
