action
The spirited dancer Ellinor Kelly accepted the invitation of a rich maharajah to Africa, who surprisingly let her sit. Completely penniless, she arrives at an animal catching station in Kenya run by the taciturn big game hunter Victor Marswell. He reluctantly gives her a guest room at first. Lively by the exotic ambience of the African savannah, Ellinor falls in love with the attractive and fascinating man. He is irritated by her uninhibited manner and sends her on the return trip by ship. But the river steamer gets stuck and forces Victor to take care of her again.
The next day, the anthropologist Donald Nordley and his young wife Linda arrive at the station to research the behavior of the mountain gorillas in the distant jungle. Victor is not taken with the idea of having to accompany a safari lasting several days . But he quickly changes his mind because he is increasingly impressed by the aloof Linda. Ellinor learns of his advances and becomes jealous. Despite the growing tension, the group set off on an expedition, went through some adventures and repeatedly got into dangerous situations. Victor and Linda can hardly hide their mutual affection and get deeper and deeper into an affair, which can only be hidden from the others through secret meetings. Victor feels guilty about Donald and tries to find a clarification. When the opportunity arises, however, he fails because of his inability to pour pure wine into the unsuspecting man who is absorbed in his research.
Ellinor recognizes the opportunity and stages a boozy party for two in Victor's tent. Startled by the noise, Linda arrives and tries in desperation to shoot Victor with a revolver lying around. Fortunately, he is only slightly injured. Linda returns ruefully to her husband, and Victor and Ellinor also eventually find each other.

Reviews
“Atmospheric adventure film with beautiful animal shots that masterfully captures the jungle environment and atmosphere. Although the love story is less convincing, the film offers captivating entertainment thanks to the excellent actors. "
"Ever since Hemingway discovered Africa for America, Hollywood's African fables seem as if they were from a much rosier Hemingway epigone, a" Happy Hemingway ", with just a little bit of snow from Kilimanjaro, a lot of whiskey, a little loneliness and harsh manly courage. John Ford staged colorful, attractive and fortunately not very serious. "
"One is inclined to describe the resulting situations with mild mockery, and thus to express the cheerfulness that often filled the Berlin premiere audience, in view of the love stories that unfold over lion hissing and gorilla roaring."
“Not a big, but a very good adventure film, the plot of which takes place in the interior of Africa. Exciting, lively and a bit banal. For young people from 15. "
