Älvängen is a place in the Swedish province of Västra Götalands län and the historic province of Västergötland with almost 5000 inhabitants (2015). It is located 30 kilometers north of Gothenburg on the eastern bank of the Göta älv and belongs to the municipality of Ale .
The railway line on which Älvängen was founded opened in 1886 and closed in 1970. Since 2004, however, the Pendeltåg has been running to Gothenburg again. In the place was with PA Carlmark AB until bankruptcy in 2003 Sweden's largest rope factory .
