Joan Osborne (2009)

Joan Elizabeth Osborne (born July 8, 1962 in Anchorage , Louisville , Kentucky ) is an American singer and singer-songwriter . At the end of 1995 she achieved a worldwide hit with One of Us .

Life

After moving to New York in the early 1990s, Osborne started her own record label called Womanly Hips , which released several independent recordings.

Her first album on a major label was called Relish and was released in March 1995 on Mercury Records . The globally successful single One Of Us (by Eric Bazilian , guitarist and songwriter for the folk rock formation The Hooters from Philadelphia), which was extracted from it, also brought good sales figures for the album, which, however, in contrast to the more pop music- sounding hit, tended towards country , blues and Was folk oriented. The following singles St. Teresa (1996, UK # 33) and Right Hand Man (1996) were rather smaller hits in comparison.

Her second studio album, Righteous Love , was released in the fall of 2000, which was a commercial failure due to its delay and quickly disappeared from the charts .

Osborne appeared in the 2002 film Standing in the Shadows of Motown and toured with the legendary Motown studio band The Funk Brothers . In 2003, she accompanied the Dixie Chicks on their US tour, appeared as a singer in the Jam -Rockern The Dead (formerly the Grateful Dead ) and released their third album How Sweet It Is , a collection of classic rock - and Soul - cover versions .

The album Bring It On Home , released in spring 2012, was nominated for Best Blues Album at the 2013 Grammy Awards .
