Eric Bazilian

Eric M. Bazilian (born July 21, 1953 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania ) is an American musician , songwriter , arranger and producer and founding member of the rock band The Hooters .

Life

Eric Bazilian started playing the piano when he was five, and when he was nine an uncle taught him to play the guitar . He plays numerous other instruments such as mandolin , saxophone , keyboard , melodica . First, he played in a band called Evil Seed before at the University of Pennsylvania on Rob Hyman met, with whom he founded two less successful bands called Wax and Baby Grand - the latter released two albums on Arista Records . Finally, in 1980, the two started the band The Hooters.

In addition to the Hooters, he also works for numerous other artists. He has also released two solo albums: "The Optimist" (2000) and "A Very Dull Boy" (2002).

In 2000 he was honored with a plaque on the Philadelphia Walk of Fame by the Philadelphia Music Alliance.

Success with the Hooters

Eric Bazilian is the musical director of the Hooters alongside Rob Hyman. Together with him he is the main songwriter of the band and responsible for the typical sound.

The band became known to a worldwide audience when they opened the Live Aid concert in Philadelphia in 1985 . Her music was particularly well received in Germany and Scandinavia. In 1995 the band took a break and played together again for the first time in 2001.

In 2019, Bazilian and Hyman appeared as Eric Bazilian & Rob Hyman of The Hooters as guest stars in the Night of the Proms concert series .

Work with other artists

For Joan Osborne 's second album Relish , he contributed the song One of Us , for which he received a Grammy nomination for Song of the Year in 1996 . He was also involved in this album as a studio musician. Prince released a cover version of One of Us on his album Emancipation (1996) .

On the album Breathe (1996) by Midge Ure , Bazilian was involved as a composer on the song Fallen Angel and played mandolin or melodica in several songs.

In 1999 he wrote ten of the songs for Amanda Marshall's second album Tuesday's Child and also acted as a studio musician.

He was also involved as a songwriter on nine of the songs on the 2007 Scorpions album Humanity - Hour I.

In 2012 he wrote the song Home to me for the Swiss singer Stefanie Heinzmann , which was released on her third studio album.

Other artists for whom Bazilian has worked as a songwriter, producer / arranger or musician include Cyndi Lauper , Jon Bon Jovi , Patty Smyth , Robbie Williams and Billy Idol.
