Paul Groves

Paul Groves (born November 24, 1964 in Lake Charles , Louisiana ) is an American opera singer ( tenor ).
Life
Groves studied music and singing at the Juilliard School, among others . He made his first stage appearances in the late 1980s, but it wasn't until he won the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions in 1991 that he achieved international recognition. Since then he has appeared in leading roles at the most important opera houses worldwide, including the Boston Lyric Opera , the De Nederlandse Opera and La Scala , the Los Angeles Opera , the Lyric Opera of Chicago , the Metropolitan Opera , the Opéra National de Paris , the Salzburg Festival , the San Francisco Opera , the Santa Fe Opera , the Vienna State Opera , the Washington National Opera , as well as the Welsh National Opera and the Oslo Opera .
His repertoire includes a number of title roles in French operas, including Faust , La Damnation de Faust , Les Contes d'Hoffmann and Roméo et Juliette , of Idomeneo and Don Ottavio of Mozart, the male leads in the two Iphigenie operas of Christoph Willibald Gluck , the title roles in Lohengrin and Parsifal , but also roles from the 20th century, such as Alwa in Bergs Lulu or Albert Gregor in Janáček's Věc Makropulos .
