Romain Gavras

Romain Gavras (born July 4, 1980 ) is a French director .

Life

Gavras is the son of the film director Constantin Costa-Gavras and brother of the director Julie Gavras .

In 1994 he made his first short film with Kim Chapiron . Together they also founded the production company Kourtrajmé , with which he shot his first music video in 2001. He stood out in the music video scene with the video for DJ Mehdi's Signatune , and in 2008 he had his breakthrough with the video shot in Moscow for the debut single for The Last Shadow Puppets . His video for Justices Stress , which shows a group of young people beating and rioting through the streets of Paris, sparked a controversial discussion, as he was praised for his idea and the radical implementation on the one hand, but on the other he was also accused of glorifying violence. In 2010 YouTube blocked its video clip for the MIA song Born Free .

Gavras worked again with the band Justice for the live documentary "A Cross the Universe", which was released in late 2008. He is also working on turning his short film "San Francisco" into a feature-length film. In 2011 he shot the spot for the “All in” umbrella brand campaign by Adidas .
