Omar Akram (* in New York ) is an Afghan-American pianist and New Age musician.

biography

Omar Akram was born in New York to Afghan parents. During his childhood the family moved again and again because of his father's diplomatic activities and so he lived temporarily in the USA, the Czech Republic, Switzerland, France, Cuba and Afghanistan. Akram received classical piano training. European classical music, Latin American music and the new age music of the French Jean Michel Jarre have significantly shaped the musical development of Akram.

In the 1990s, Omar Akram moved to Los Angeles. In 1996 he decided to record his own album, and it wasn't until 2002 that the album called Opal Fire was finished, found a label with Real Music , and was released. The album, like its two successors Free as a Bird and Secret Journey , reached the top 20 of the New Age charts.

Until his fourth album Echoes of Love passed five years, during which Akram married and became a father, which he incorporated into his music. The album, which was produced together with Gregg Karukas , was released in 2012 and received the Grammy Award for best new age album the following year. A year later, Akram released his fifth album, Daytime Dreamer .
