Gerald Albright (born August 30, 1957 in Los Angeles ) is an American saxophonist who specializes in crossover and smooth jazz .

Live and act

Albright grew up in South Central Los Angeles and received piano lessons as a child before switching to the saxophone. He attended Locke High School and then studied at the University of Redlands . During this time he became a sought-after studio musician and sideman; he made recordings with Patrice Rushen , Anita Baker , Ray Parker Jr. , Lola Folana , Olivia Newton-John and Maurice White and toured with Les McCann , Rodney Franklin , Jeff Lorber , Teena Marie , Marlene Shaw , Debra and Eloise Laws , Quincy Jones , Whitney Houston , Phil Collins, and others.

He has also performed at jazz festivals and was heard at Jazz Explosion Tous alongside Will Downing , Jonathan Butler , Hugh Masekela , Chaka Khan , Rachelle Ferrell and others.

In 1987 his first own album Just Between Us was released by Atlantic Records , which was followed by other albums on this label and GRP Records . His album New Beginning , released in 2004 on Peak Records , was nominated for a Grammy . He can also be heard on his own productions as a bass guitarist, keyboardist, flautist and background singer.
