Shawn Patrick Stockman (* 26. September 1972 , in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania ) is an American R & B / Soul - singer and member of the boy band Boyz II Men .

Life

According to his own account, Stockman took his first musical steps at the age of five or six when he recorded his vocals on a Fisher Price tape recorder. Later he received specific support from his mother. At the age of eight he had contact with the boys' choir of the city of Philadelphia and thus for the first time with organized music. At the age of nine he went on his first tours with the choir. During his time at Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts, Stockman et al. a. with singing and classical music.

Stockman founded the Boyz II Men group in 1988 with Wanyá Morris , Nathan Morris , Marc Nelson and Michael McCary, which celebrated its first international success in 1991. He is characterized by his supple, gentle voice. After Boyz II Men published End of The Road in 1992 , they reached the top ten of the German media control charts at number 5 and also became known in Germany. As a result, many film producers became aware of him and Shawn started songs for films such as u. a. Seventeen Again and Mr. Holland's Opus . At this time he also started working on his debut album , which was due to be released in the late 1990s, but eventually the plans could not be put into practice. Nevertheless, the first single Visions of a Sunset reached number 7 on the New Zealand charts. In the US, the 1996 single reached number 45. In the same year he received - together with his colleagues from Boys II Men - an honorary doctorate from Drexel University , a private university in Philadelphia in the US state of Pennsylvania.

In 2002, he appeared on the DJ Jazzy Jeff- album The Magnificent with the song How Do I . In 2005 Stockman founded his own record label Soul Chemistry Projects , which he discontinued after a few years. In 2008 he recorded a cover version of Beyoncé's hit If I Were A Boy called If U Were A Boy .

At the beginning of 2018, reports appeared that he was recording his first solo album for the record company SRG Records.

Private

Stockman met his wife Sharhonda in 1993, and the wedding followed eight years later. In 2003, the two parents of twins - Ty and Micah. The latter was diagnosed with autism after about a year. Their daughter Brooklyn followed later. His parents are JoAnn Stockman and Thurman Sanders, who also fathered nine other children.
