Marc Nelson (born January 23, 1971 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania ) is an American contemporary R&B and jazz singer and songwriter. Is known for his activities in music groups such as Boyz II Men , Az Yet and Blayse . His mother is the disco -Interpretin Phyllis Nelson .

Life

In 1986 Nelson and his friend Nathan Morris were looking for members for a potential R&B group and hired tenors Wanyá Morris , Shawn Stockman and bass Michael McCarry. At first they were called Unique Attraction , but were renamed Boyz II Men , after a song by the boy band New Edition . After the band received a record deal for the first time, Nelson left the band for personal reasons.

He signed his first solo contract with Capitol Records in 1991 . In that year he also released his first studio album I Want You and landed with the debut single of the same name at number 26 of the R&B / Hip-Hop songs . The second single also made it into the same charts, namely at number 48. In the early 1990s, Nelson also worked as a songwriter and background singer for several R&B artists such as Whitney Houston , Toni Braxton and Aaron Neville .

With the help of Babyface , he managed to become part of the then unknown band Az Yet in 1995 , which shortly thereafter received a recording contract. The group's first single hit # 1 on the R&B / Hip-Hop charts and was awarded a gold record for over 500,000 units sold . The follow-up single Hard To Say I'm Sorry with Peter Cetera was also a success and came 8th on the Hot 100 . In addition, this song received the platinum record and a Grammy nomination for over a million CDs sold .

Nelson left this band in 1997 to continue his solo career. So he wrote songs again, including for Brandy , Tamia and Tyrese . In 1999 his second album Chocolate Mood was released , from which his most successful solo single 15 Minutes was released (number 4 on the R&B charts and top thirty position in the Hot 100). The album, however, was a flop and failed to reach a placement on the Billboard 200 .

In the early 2000s, Nelson returned to songwriting, writing songs for Babyface and Charlie Wilson . Brian Culbertson released the song It's On Tonight, written by Nelson, in 2005 as a single and reached number 5 on the US jazz charts. In 2006 Nelson founded another boy band, the super group "Blayse" consisting of members of the bands BLACKstreet , Az Yet , Boyz II Men and Silk . After only one tour in the United States , the group split again in 2007.

In the same year his third album Marc My Words was released . The independent edition consisted of recordings between 2002 and 2006. The publication was hardly noticed because neither the singles nor the album itself made it into the charts. In 2008 Nelson became a member of the band Az Yet again and recorded the album The Return with them .
