Career
Az Yet was originally created as a duo by Shawn Rivera and Dion Allen. Later the singers Kenny Terry, whom the two had met while singing in the lobby of the Wyndham Hotel in Philadelphia, and Darryl Anthony joined the band. Some demo recordings found their way into Babyface's hands through his mother-in-law Jacqueline McQuam. He was taken with the sound of the band and invited them to support After 7 and El Debarge .
In 1996 Az Yet released their debut album named after the band on LaFace Records . The first single, Last Night , rose to number 1 on the US R&B charts and was awarded a gold record in the US . With their second single Hard to Say I'm Sorry , a cover version of the Chicago hit , Az Yet repeated this success. It made it to number 8 on the Billboard Hot 100.
In the following years the line-up changed several times after some members left the band due to creative differences.
