Charlie Wilson (born January 29, 1953 in Tulsa , Oklahoma ) is an American musician. In the 1970s and 1980s he became known as the lead singer of the funk and soul group Gap Band .

Wilson began singing in the church choir when he was three or four years old. He was later a member of his junior high school choir. With his brothers Ronnie and Robert, he founded the Greenwood, Archer and Pine Street Band in 1967 , which was renamed the Gap Band in 1979. Between 1979 and 1984, four of the band's albums reached platinum status in the United States .

After the band became quieter, Wilson released solo albums in 1992 and 2000. In 2005 he returned to the international charts with the title Signs , a collaboration with Snoop Dogg and Justin Timberlake . Shortly afterwards he released his third album Charlie, Last Name: Wilson .
