Eric Church
Kenneth Eric Church (born May 3, 1977 in Granite Falls , North Carolina ) is an American country singer and songwriter .
Career
Eric Church is from Granite Falls , North Carolina. At the age of 13 he wrote his first songs and taught himself to play the guitar. While at Appalachian State College , he performed with his brother and two friends as Mountain Boys in the western part of the state. After graduating with a degree in marketing, he moved to the country capital, Nashville. It took him a year there before he got a record deal.
Church first wrote songs for other musicians before releasing his first own album in 2006. Sinners Like Me was an instant hit, reaching the top 10 US country albums and producing three top 20 hits on the country song chart . Album and singles were also able to place themselves in the general charts.
Three years passed until his follow-up album Carolina . With 4th place in the country charts and 17th place in the official sales charts, he was able to build on the success of his debut. The album stayed on the Billboard 200 for 90 weeks and, like its predecessor, was awarded gold . The three singles were even more successful, all of which achieved middle placements in the Hot 100 , twice gold and once platinum.
Church then rose to the fore among country artists in 2011 with the album Chief . It peaked at number one on the country and sales charts and was his first platinum album. It was named Album of the Year at the CMA Awards . Five songs on the album hit the pop charts and two of them reached number one in the country charts. One of them, called Springsteen , went platinum 5 times.
In 2013 he released his first live album, which made it into the top five of the charts, before his fourth studio album The Outsiders followed the following year . It marked a departure from the simple country songs of the hit album and brought in elements of rock, funk and hip-hop. Although the album hit number one again , it fell short of the success of Chief and Give Me Back My Hometown was still the biggest hit with number four in the country charts and number 36 on the Hot 100. For this the album was also released in Australia and Great Britain and reached the charts in both countries.
