Kathleen Mary "Kathy" Griffin (born November 4, 1960 in Oak Park , Illinois ) is an American actress , voice actress , TV producer and stand-up comedian .

Life

Childhood and youth

Griffin was born the youngest of five children of John Patrick Griffin (1916-2007) and his wife Maggie Griffin (1920-2020). She grew up with her three brothers and a sister in Oak Park and the nearby Forest Park . She graduated from Oak Park and River Forest High School in 1978.

Career

In the 1980s Griffin joined the legendary improvisational comedy troupe The Groundlings and had their first appearances with them. She began her television career with guest appearances on various television series such as The Prince of Bel-Air , Emergency Room - The Emergency Room and Crazy About You . Through these guest appearances one became aware of Griffin's talent as a comedian. She was allowed to appear for the first time in 1996 in a half-hour comedy special produced by HBO . She celebrated her breakthrough in the same year in the role of Vicky Groener on the side of Brooke Shields in the television series Susan , which she held until the end of the series in 2000. Back in 1998, she got her own hour-long HBO special, A Hot Cup of Talk . Kathy Griffin took part in various reality shows, for example, she won the ABC production Celebrity Mole , hosted the NBC show Average Joe and also shot the MTV series Kathy's So-Called Reality . In 2000, she made an appearance on the 27,000,000: 1 episode of the X-Files mystery series - The FBI's Scary Cases , in which she played a dual role. In 2005, Griffin's reality show Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List premiered on cable broadcaster Bravo .

Since New Year's Eve 2001 she has hosted the New Year's Eve Live Show from Times Square in New York with Anderson Cooper .

In 2007 and 2008, she received an Emmy for Outstanding Reality Program for the third and fourth seasons of her show, Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List . She was also nominated for this award in 2006, 2009, 2010 and 2011. In addition, each of their comedy programs released on CD from 2008 onwards has been nominated for a Grammy Award in the category of best comedy album . She received this award for the first time in 2014 for Calm Down Gurrrl . Her first album, For Your Consideration , made her the first woman to top the comedy album charts in the United States. In 2009 she also published her autobiography Official Bookclub Selection , which made it to the top of the New York Times bestseller list . 2010 ran the sixth and final season of her show Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List . From April 2012 to March 2013, Bravo ran her late night show Kathy in the United States .

Kathy Griffin was married to Matt Moline from February 2001 to May 2006.
