Bob Mintzer
Bob Mintzer (born January 27, 1953 in New Rochelle , New York) is an American jazz and fusion musician ( saxophone , clarinet , wind player ) as well as composer , arranger and band leader .
biography
Mintzer worked with musicians such as Eumir Deodato , Tito Puente , Buddy Rich and Hubert Laws in the mid-1970s and was a member of the Thad Jones / Mel Lewis Orchestra in 1977 . Since 1978 he has led his own band, with which he recorded more than twenty albums. In addition, he stepped u. a. with Jaco Pastorius , Mike Mainieri , Louie Bellson , Bob Moses and the American Saxophone Quartet and has made guest appearances with various symphony orchestras. Since 1991 he has been a member of the fusion band Yellowjackets .
Mintzer took over as chief conductor of the WDR Bigband in the summer of 2016, succeeding Richard DeRosa .
